Eight-Lesson Curriculum to Prepare Your Seniors for College (No More IEPs!)

We’d like to draw your attention to a timely resource for this time of year: an eight-lesson transition curriculum, Self-Advocacy and the Transition to College, from the Monadnock Center for Successful Transitions. It addresses the specific needs of students with disabilities who are about to enter college. Things shift in a fundamental way for students (and their families) as they leave the IEP world, and this curriculum helps them understand the coming changes and practice important skills.

The lessons focus on the skills associated with self-advocacy:

  • knowledge of your disability
  • how it impacts your learning
  • what accommodations you’ll need
  • how to communicate your needs
  • your rights and responsibilities under the law

The curriculum is a downloadable 58-page PDF with handouts you can copy for use with multiple students. You could use this curriculum one-on-one or with a group.
