October was Parent Involvement Month in NH

“Parents are a child’s first and most influential teachers.” Governor Maggie Hassan proclaimed, making October Parent Involvement in Education Month in New Hampshire. This effort, co-sponsored by the Parent Information Center of NH, was designed to promote strong collaboration between parents and schools.

The seventh annual Parent Involvement in Education Awards, co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Department of Education and PIC, took place in Concord, New Hampshire on October 5, 2015.

The event celebrated educators, parents, and family-school partnership teams from around the state that displayed creativity, innovation, and/or commitment at the community, school, district, or state level.

Among the honorees were several participants in the Next Steps NH project: Nancy Bartlett and Lynn Murray, parents  from Lincoln Woodstock School school district, Kevin Cushing, Winnacunnet High School leadership team parent; Barbara Publicover, project facilitator from PIC; and Heidi Wyman, regional intermediary from Strafford Learning Center. Congratulations!

The honorees were individuals and teams that displayed creativity, innovation, and/or commitment at the community, school, district, or state level in one or more of the NH Family-School-Community Partnership Standards (which are based on PTA Standards):

  1. Welcoming all families
  2. Communicating effectively
  3. Supporting student success
  4. Speaking up for every child
  5. Sharing decision-making
  6. Collaborating as a community

Honorees came from Merrimack Schools, Special Medical Services, Marguerite’s Place, Allenstown PTO, Derry Schools, Green Acres PTG, Mont Vernon, Barnard School, Beaver Meadow School, Deerfield Community School, Winnacunnet High School, Lincoln Woodstock Family Engagement Team, Rochester School District, Manchester Health Department/Manchester Community Health Center, Pinkerton Academy, Stafford Learning Center, and Coe-Brown Academy.
